New MCC board member appointed

A leading mortgage investment corporation announces the latest addition to its Board of Directors

The Mortgage Company of Canada Inc. (MCC), a leading investment corporation that offers single-family residential mortgages for clients in the Greater Toronto Area, announced on Monday (February 22) the appointment of its latest addition to its Board of Directors.

Taking his new post in the MCC board last February 1, James Garcelon is bringing 20 years of experience in capital markets. A Chartered Financial Analyst, he is concurrently working as a portfolio manager with boutique investment management firm Shaunessy Investment Counsel Inc.

“We are very excited to have James join the Board.  His experience, with both public and private companies, in the functions of operations, risk management and capital raising will be invaluable as we continue to increase the scale of MCC in 2016 and beyond," MCC president and CEO Raj Babber told CNW.

Garcelon, who replaced former board member Glen Silvestri, has previously worked on a senior capacity at National Bank Financial and HSBC Securities (Canada) Inc. He is also a principal and co-founder of private merchant bank Grove Capital Group Ltd., which primarily caters to small capitalization companies.

Garcelon matriculated at the London School of Economics and Political Science with a Master of Science in International Political Economy. He also holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario’s Richard Ivey School of Business.
