It’s an alliance seen as increasingly important for a challenged industry, with three provincial associations now formally banding together in partnership -- and with an eye to eventually creating a “professional designation.”

Why would they do this when we already have a national designation -- the AMP. CAAMP and the AMP are already established, recognized and have a track record of investing $ into consumer advertising and promotion. We don't need another designation to tie up our money...

MBABC saw the same thing a few years back and decided to support the AMP - smart strategic decision. IMBA already tried to have a designation which fizzled very quickly.

If you want to raise industry awareness and increase and promote professionalism, why not work from a place of strength -- from within. We should be promoting AMP as the national standard!

The AMP is justa cash grab... how can you have an association called: The Canadian Association of ACCREDITED MORTGAGE PROFESSIONALS and not recognize that a licensed mortgage broker is accredited... you know by the regulator, or the fact that they had to take licensing courses? CAAMP is also not a BROKER association, they are a MORTGAGE association. BIG difference. They do not advocate just for brokers, they advocate for the industry as a whole - which is a good thing. Just don't confuse the two.

"...will focus on sharing educational resources, training practices and professional development strategies and resources with the intent to create a national education program..."

Doesn't CAAMP already have licensing courses in almost every province? Surely the education must be good of all those provincial regulators are approving it for use in licensing.

I too agree with Good for them. AMP is a cash grab. I always have kept up my education by attending courses and will continue to keep up my 12 credit courses each year but I refuse to pay to have a AMP behind my name. Either it becomes mandatory as part of our profession or not. Until then it is a cash grab. PS I had been an AMP since its inception but recently gave it up due to the fact that not one person has ever asked me what it means. NOT ONE!
