The 2013 CMHC Consumer survey reinforces the idea consumers are increasingly reaching for the Internet, but also suggests they’re reaching for mortgage brokers although not always to close the deal.

As I have said a thousand times to the point everyone is sick of it: the consumer will search the web for mortgage rates. It does not matter who is on the sites, if True North and I stopped tomorrow there would still be rates on the sites.

Heck, for the last couple of days the best advertised rates in Canada were banks and Credit Unions who just had not got around to updating the sites for the rate surge. So the consumer will ALWAYS see low rates on these sites, no matter if every mortgage broker stopped using them. The pressure to produce lower rates based on this widespread easily available information will never go away.
