It’s some way off, but new figures from Statistics Canada predict that the population could hit 63.5 million by 2063.

Seems plausible that the 'supply and demand' metric may possibly be a continued boost to Real Estate values based on this story.

It would be interesting to see what the demographic forecast was in 1963. But assuming this one is correct, everyone should understand that there is no precedent for strong economic growth together with slow or declining population. So get used to budget cuts, benefit cuts, and sluggish home prices. A good case for trailer fee lenders.

It's interesting to note that the only reason our population isn't outright falling, and our economy with it, is immigration. We all need to reach out to immigrants and help them integrate into a sustainable Canadian lifestyle.

Open migration is the future of our country and our planet, and it wouldn't hurt to be more open with the existing population either.

Our "business as usual" ignorance is leading us into growing isolationism. The future is either walled and fascist or ecumenical and community focused.

One of these days I'm going to turn off my television and invite a foreigner to dinner.
