Mortgage professionals in smaller markets are increasingly stepping up to be counted in the CMP Top Brokers list. Their funded volumes are challenging mortgage professionals in much larger markets.
Her inclusion on last year’s Top brokers list is a testament to that fact, says Deb White, owner of Dominion Lending Centres – White House Mortgages in Vernon, BC.
She ranked 35 with $54.07 million in funded deals, representing 216 transactions.
White, who also received this year’s CMA award for Best Community Service Effort, tells Mortgagebrokernews.ca that her ranking on the annual list -- this year, the Top 75 -- has proven brokers in small markets can compete and win.
MBN: How has being included in the CMP Top 50 Brokers list benefited you?
White: I live in a very small community so the fact that I’ve been named in the Top 50 across Canada has just made my name more prominent in my community.
MBN: Is it advantageous for small market to participate in the CMP Top Brokers? Why?
White: Absolutely. Being from a small market I was hesitant to put my numbers in because I didn’t think I could compete against Victoria, Vancouver and Toronto, so I was really hesitant. So being from a small market and making the list, it really makes people more aware.
MBN: What prompted you to submit in 2011?
White: Honestly, peer pressure. That’s the honest truth, it was peer pressure it was down to the last minute before I submitted.
MBN: Have you used the list to market yourself, if so how?
White: Absolutely. It’s a part of my ad in the newspaper, I have a window deco on my car and it’s on my email signature.
MBN: Have you received any feedback from consumers?
White: Oh yes, they figure that if I’m in the top then I’m a good broker to work with.
MBN: There were some impressive numbers from brokers last year – what do you think those numbers say to consumers about the broker industry?
White: I think that more consumers are going to brokers rather than going to the banks and the brokers are actually willing to work harder for you than the banks are.
The CMP Top 75 Brokers list is compiled according to individual brokers’ funded volumes for the 2011 financial year. All figures must be supplied by you, the broker/agent, via electronic survey.

Please break down your sales figures by the relevant network or lender. Also include their contact names and telephone numbers. CMP may then contact them to confirm your figures.
The names of all the CMP Top 75 Brokers will be published in CMP 7.7, and include profiles of some of those who made the list.
SUBMISSIONS CLOSE JULY 16
In addition to the CMP Top 75, this year marks the introduction of the Small Market Top 20, a list celebrating the accomplishments of mortgage professionals in markets with a 2011 average home price of $290,000 or less.
Note: the market must be a CREA-identified region, municipality or centre.
The Small Market Top 20 is open to all brokers and agents who did a minimum 80 per cent of their deals in such a market where the average home price is at or under $290K. Any broker who fits the bill is welcome to submit an application. Small Market brokers will automatically be considered for inclusion in the CMP Top 75.
