Hockey fans get to live in condos owned by the Canadiens

by |
Montreal condo buyers couldn’t wait to get their hands on a development of condos partly owned by local hockey team the Canadiens. Poised ready for faceoff more than 600 buyers attended the sales launch for condos in the mixed-use development in conjunction with developers Canderel and Cadillac Fairview. In a matter of months 500 had signed up. Canderel’s VP of sales and marketing told The Globe and Mail that having the hockey team’s name on the project boosted sales: “They say in Montreal that the first religion is the Catholic church and then there’s the Canadiens. At least 50 to 60 per cent of the sales process was due to the brand. A lot of people bought because they wanted to be close to the Canadiens.” Montreal’s not the only city where sport-related condos are becoming a thing; in Ottawa the RedBlacks are back and a new condo development will overlook the stadium; and in Edmonton Oilers’ owner Daryl Katz is planning a development.
