Brokers get into the swing of things to fight cancer

One brokerage and its lending partners went nationwide in the fight against cancer, raising $30,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Mortgage Alliance rallied up their foursomes across the country for the National Mortgage Alliance Golf Day on June 22, with three golf tournaments taking place in Toronto, Ont., Calgary, Alta., and Vancouver, B.C.

“It is nothing less than inspiring to see how involved and supportive our Mortgage Professionals, staff, and lender partners are.” says Michael Beckette, CEO of Mortgage Alliance. “The event was quickly sold out in all three locations and the generous support of our lender/partner sponsors was overwhelming.”

The Golf Day is one of a number of events that Mortgage Alliance organizes to raise much funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. Last year a total of $150,000 was raised, with Beckette hoping to raise even more this year.
The efforts by Mortgage Alliance to join in the fight against cancer are echoed by several mortgage brokers and insurers.

Economical Insurance funds the Wake Up Call Breakfast events in Moncton and Saint John, N.B., and Halifax and Cape Breton, N.S.

“We want to help men over 40 understand that their best chance of surviving prostate cancer is early detection,” says Karen Kaminska, regional vice president of sales and distribution in Atlantic Canada for Economical Insurance. “We’re proud to fund the annual Wake Up Call Breakfast events.”

Dominion Lending Centres YBM Group in Huntsville, Ont. have held charity golf tournaments to raise funds for local area families suffering from terminal cancer, with a portion given to Southlake Hospital and Cancer Recovery Foundation.
