The fight against FSBOs has been reignited with Quebec’s lawsuit against a major private seller, but this time agents have a mortgage broker army backing them, saying licensed sales reps provide a safeguard for potential home owners during the buying process.

While being cautious when letting people into your house is reasonable concern, forcing home sellers to sell through Realestate agent seems like going to far.
From lender perspective they can always ask for an appraisal to make sure the value is right.
    Just a thought.

Quality Real Estate agents do a great job for their clients, that is a fact.

That being said most mortgage brokers have seen some bad apple realtors promoting mortgage fraud, that is a fact, just like we know some bad lawyers have been a huge source of mortgage fraud. So it makes no sense to suggest using a realtor eliminates mortgage fraud. There is more underwriting work to do on a private sale but I always thought that it was our job to do that underwriting work. Most importantly we cannot advocate changing legislation to force the consumer to use real estate agents in all home sale transactions, that is fundamentally wrong.
